About Us
Liftem Foundation is a global, non-profit, non-governmental organization with primary mission to invest in God’s kingdom by focusing on women with gestational diabetes. We strongly believe that incidents of stillbirths or preterm’s can be significantly minimized with early diagnosis, proper medication and/or nutrition. (Galatian 6:2: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ”)
Vision Statement
Our vision is to be one of the world’s leading non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to helping women with gestational diabetes maintain healthy pregnancies, prevent preterms or stillbirths.
Mission Statement
To help create awareness among women, men and young adults about reality, dangers and prevalence of gestational diabetes. To improve the state of health and well-being of pregnant women by providing support, preventive measures and treatments of gestational diabetes. Committed to assist and support women stigmatized because of the negative impacts and consequence of gestational diabetes. To manage information that will promote statistical reduction in stillbirths due to gestation diabetes.
Our Story
The founder of Liftem Foundation hails from the western part of Nigeria in a neighborhood where knowledge of gestational diabetes is deficient among dwellers.
The vision to start this foundation came from God, after experiencing the loss of two pregnancies due to lack of proper information about gestational diabetes, financial constrain and poor state of health care facilities around her neighbourhood then. The founder did not only suffer loss of babies but also had to cope with stigmatization from the community due to cultural norms and ignorance of gestational diabetes.
Upon relocation to the United States in 2009, the founder experienced mixed emotions of relief and grief. Relief, in that she finally have a clear understanding of this medical condition (gestational diabetes) and grief for women with similar or worse conditions back home in Africa with deficient or no information about gestational diabetes.
This tragic incident moved her to pray to God for grace, strength and provision to assist women with similar experience. Since then, she has been involved with her local community in Morgantown, West Virginia, United States, assisting low-income families. The foundation has been providing for less privileged families in its little capacity.
